I encounter a lot of people carrying alcohol wipes/prep pads in their boo boo and FAK.

I'm curious near options to replace these with Zeiss Lens Cleaning wipes to offer far more utility especially when it comes to on person acquit.

    Hither is my personal cess:

    Cost: Tie

-Zeiss $2.88 at my local Walmart for 50
-Prep pad $3.00 allover for 200

For something like this where I am not using thousands a year the divergence between 6 cents a unit and ii cents a unit of measurement are irrelevant to me.

Active Ingredient: Tie but maybe prep pads

The MSDS for the Zeiss wipes list 70% isopropyl alcohol every bit the only ingredient so it is the same as the alcohol prep pads I have seen. (edit: I can no longer find solid support that the Zeiss wipes are at lxx% w/westward isopropyl. See a couple of mail below for MSDS info)

    Packed Size: Prep pad

The basic width and acme is more than or less the same but the prep pads are very thin. I would say information technology takes 4 prep pads to equal the thickness of a Zeiss wipe. However, the prep pad packages is VERY thin then 4x VERY thin notwithstanding makes the Zeiss Wipe package sparse.
Equally you can see in my hygiene kit with gum, Zeiss wipe, and floss stick it is nonetheless a dainty thin kit and easily fits into a credit card slot in my BigSkinny.

    Application: Zeiss wipe +++

I'k not concerned almost the survivalist aspects of the alcohol wipes merely I experience the Zeiss wipe share many of the aforementioned properties in this regard. From my COMPLETELY UNEDUCATED and UNINFORMED (that is where you guys/gals come up in) the simply real good apply for the pre pads are to…well pre an surface area for an injection or claret draw. They are tiny and mildly abrasive strips of cotton.

The Zeiss has substantially more than surface area (well-nigh the size of my hand) and this leads also many more FAK/hygiene applications than the prep pads are suited for.

    ·Cleaning camera lens

oMy kid always finds a way to go his fingers on my point and shoot lenses and when out on the town this tin can mean the difference between a proficient pic and poo. This is what the product is designed to do and does a very adept job. A prep pad would not go anywhere well-nigh my lenses.

    ·Great full general lens/glass clearer
oGlasses, phones, monitors, laptops, mirrors… Where are surrounded by transparent textile and having these make clean but makes the day go past a picayune meliorate.

    ·Disinfectant wipes
oGiven their large size these work really well for cleaning all sorts of items that you would like to clean off and disinfect (hands, phone receiver, door knobs…) While I will be switching over to BZK wipes for my wallet FAK kit I don't see why these could non be used every bit a reasonable (if non a picayune painful) replacement, and given their size, easier to perform the job than the prep pad.

    ·Napkin
oThese work rather well as a towelet and have the added benefit of being antimicrobial.

Ok so that is the village idiots take on the subject…your thoughts?

What? Glass Wax? Yeah, it's pretty good. I don't know of anything that'll totally eliminate fingerprints, etc. If you order off Amazon, will they transport to Uk? There'southward lots of retailers with it available. Just need to observe one to send. Or, were you referring to some other product? I like it on the screens for the phones and tablets.

I take the Zess wipes in all my EDC bags, and FAK for still reasons y'all listed. I can't stand to take dirty glasses, and I am also a piddling scrap, ok more and so a little, OCD about smudges on my smart phone and watch crystal. I think information technology is a great thought!!!

All else being equal between the ii products, I'd become with the Zeiss wipes for all of the reasons you mentioned. They'll exercise everything the prep pads will, the contrary is not true. Prep pads are cheaper only are tiny and leave lint all over.

I've used prep pads for cleaning photographic camera lenses and it works but non nearly as well. Mainly as a source of fluid followed upward by regular lens tissue. The Zeiss wipes are more of a single solution, though I still find information technology better to use 2, the commencement one to clean your fingers, 2d i for the lens. While they practice cost more, it's still quite reasonable. The increased versatility more than offsets the cost.

Then unless one is diabetic or otherwise is going through enough of them for price to become a factor, information technology'south hard to go incorrect with the lens wipes.

Ok, so the MSDS trail for these were non equally clear as I recall when I researched them erstwhile ago but hither is the MSDS I experience is the correct 1 for this product:

    http://www.bluelakeproducts.com/DOCUMENTS/Zeiss_Lens_Towelette_MSDS.pdf

This one is associated with the product as well but I think this is the pump spray and not the wipes:
    http://www.photodon.com/zeissMSDS.pdf

So finally at that place is this 1 but I think these items are European:
    http://www1.af-net.com/msds/001/001CLCK2.pdf

None of these list whatsoever chemical merely booze. The European union one list both ethanol (yumm) and Propan-ii-OL which is isopropyl which I assuem is to denature the ethanol (booo).

I have not seen whatsoever MSDS for this production that list any other substance simply ethanol or isopropyl. However, I can non notice any solid back up to my 70% claim for this production so I volition edit my original comment.

I carry the Zeiss wipes with me in my EDC bag. Cracking for wiping lenses without scratching (unlike kleenex or paper towels). I started carrying them so that I could always wipe my motorcycle helmet visor make clean and I needed something condom for information technology'southward transitions SolFX coating. Now I use them for everything, but mainly my sunglasses, helmet, phone.

I buy mine at Sam's Club; 200 for $8.eighty IIRC.

I have a crapload of alcohol prep pads every bit they end up leftover in my pockets when I get home from work in the hospital... you lot won't detect those anywhere but my IFAK.

hmmm I have that problem with O2 flowmeter christmas tree adaptors. My wife is sick of finding them in the washing machine after she washes my scrubs. If only I could figure out a EDC purpose for those.

For you guys with older Alcohol prep pads stashed, there was a HUGE recall on millions of them 12-18 months ago TRIAD was on the list and many other names custom labeled by them for other companies. some were plant contaminated and there were infections reported. I volition mail service the link when I find it. I have both lens cleaner and prep pads simply will only use lens pads every bit a prep pad for cuts if I can confirm they only contain alcohol. I employ zeiss pads and accept Tiffen liquid lens cleaner in quart bottles which is wicked excellent, dries streak free and won't injure coatings.

I cleaned out my IFAKs and medic bags of the older prep pads and bought new stuff, I utilise the old ones for binos and spotting telescopic lens cleaner. In an Escape From New York situation anything goes;) but I would/do carry both as your FAK should bear only quality sterile items

At that place'southward some news y'all can utilise boys and girls. Ok, and so if a facility that specializes in making medical accessories, which has to have loftier quality control in place, can't go along their isopropyl safe I'yard losing faith in my lens wipes for whatever blazon of wound cleaning unless I encounter Kurt Russell walking around.

General disinfecting I'm however feeling good. Hmmm...I have a strange urge to find an eye patch all of the sudden...
